Here’s a shocking fact: Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin who was the only scorer for the Rojiblancos in the UEFA Champions League final was bought by Local Defensor Sporting for $37 which is roughly around 2200 INR.

The transfer of the Uruguyan defender, who is currently among the top defenders in the world was from Cerro de Montevideo to Local Defensor Sporting. He not only scored in the Champions League final at Lisbon, but also scored at Camp Nou on the final day of the season, which helped Atletico Madrid clinch their first La Liga title since 1995.

Godin, 28, currently in Uruguay’s FIFA 2014 Brazil World Cup squad, failed to impress at Local Defensor Sporting back in 2002, and later had to combine football and studies together at his hometown Rosario.

This piece of information was revealed through a document in Uruguay’s Football Association his transfer fee at 840 pesos $37.

Diego Godin made a move to Spain and joined Villareal in 2007 and played 3 seasons at the club before heading to the Spanish capital and joining Atletico Madrid, where he has established himself in the first 11. He has won the Europa League, La Liga, UEFA Super Cup and Copa Del Rey with Atletico Madrid since his move in 2010.
