Chelsea player reportedly said he would rather lose than win for Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho’s relationship with Chelsea players hitting ‘rock bottom’

According to reports from BBC Radio 5 presenter Gerry Richardson, a certain Chelsea player would ‘rather lose than win’ for Jose Mourinho. The Chelsea boss’ future at Stamford Bridge has been brought into question after his poor performance this season, and he only added to his pressure after the 3-1 loss to Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool.

Chelsea, who only lost four games last season, have already lost six from eleven this season and sit at 15th place in the league. While Roman Abramovich publically backed Jose Mourinho to succeed last month, the team has not been able to get back into their winning form which saw them win the Premier League and Capital One Cup last season.

Mourinho who had recently claimed that he would quit in case he lost the support of his players, might have to leave if Richardson’s statement is anything to go by. The presenter said the Portuguese’s relationship with his players had hit ‘rock bottom’.

He said: “Let me tell you what I know on the Chelsea story. My information comes from a Chelsea first team player. The information was actually passed to me by a football contact. I was told that Jose Mourinho's relationship with many of his players is at rock bottom.

“I was told they're fed up with the way he's been dealing with some of them. They're fed up with his outbursts. I was told that his relationship particularly with Eden Hazard was under immense strain.

“Here's a staggering quote. One player said recently, ‘I'd rather lose than win for him’. Now that last quote may well have been said in the heat of the moment, but it perhaps gives an insight into the mood of some of the players.”

Ramires’ early goal was not enough to beat Liverpool

Chelsea started the match against Liverpool well, where Brazilian midfielder Ramires scored a headed goal from a Cesar Azpilicueta cross in the early minutes of the game.

But the game swung in Liverpool’s favour when Philippe Coutinho scored two goals. Christian Benteke who was substituted an hour into the game also managed to score a goal making the score line 3-1, before the end of the match.

The 52-year old who seemed quite frustrated with the result refused to shed light on his reaction to some of the questionable moments during the match. One such occasion was when Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva, who had already been booked once, escaped a sending off when referee Mark Clattenburg didn’t penalize him for tripping Ramires.

Mourinho had already received a heavy fine and a suspend one-match ban last month for criticising the referee’s decision after the loss against Southampton, and recently, he was sent to the stands for a complication with the referee in the defeat against West Ham.
