Valencia appoint former Porto goalkeeper Nuno Espirito Santos as manager

Valencia CF presents Nuno as the new manager of Valencia CF

Valencia today officially appointed former Porto FC keeper Nuno Espirito Santos as their new manager on a contract till June 30, 2015.

Nuno was accompanied by President Amadeo Salvo and General Sporting Manager Francisco Joaquín Pérez Rufete.

“It is an honour to be Valencia CF manager,” said Santos.

“We have to work. It isn't easy, but we have the conviction that we are going to achieve things. We all have the dream of fighting with the biggest clubs in Europe. Valencia CF is a big club," he said on the official website.

“Our football will be organized, balanced and with the fight. The fans will be proud. I believe in people. To me they are the most important thing. I like the organization, balance. Knowing how to defend helps to attack faster. We have to fight. In football there is only the present," added the Portuguese.

Club President,Amadeo Salvo looked optimistic of Valencia not only doing well in the La Liga but also qualifying for the Champions League.

“Next year we have to be in the Champions League and I am convinced we will be there. My responsibility is to build a team capable of winning every game."

"After talking with Nuno and reading the reports, I am convinced that this is a good decision for the future," said Salvo.

He takes over from Antonio Pizzi, who was sacked earlier this week. Under Pizzi, Valencia managed to make it to the semi-finals of the Europa League where they lost to eventual champions Sevilla but finished eighth in the La Liga table last season which compelled the club authorities to fire him.

Nuno Santos, who earlier played for Deportivo La Coruna joined Porto in 2002 and it was under Jose Mourinho that he went on to become the part of the side which won the Champions League in 2004.
