Video: Moyes on Liverpool, Rooney and Champions league draw

Manchester United manager David Moyes has revealed Wayne Rooney is “mentally in good shape” ahead of Sunday’s trip to Liverpool.

Rooney completed his first game of the season against Chelsea on Monday, after which he thanked the United fans for their support.

David Moyes, Manchester United manager(on upcoming match with Liverpool)“Well, I didn’t know yet because I’ve not been involved in it yet. I know everybody tells me (about) the big rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester United, it was certainly that when it was Everton as well. I’m looking forward to it, it’s a game…part of coming to Manchester United is to be involved in these sort of games.”

David Moyes, Manchester United manager(on Wayne Rooney)“Well, I think Wayne Rooney’s been a great player for many years for Manchester United. He was an up and coming player when he was at Everton as a young boy, so I think his career has gone exactly the way people expected it to go. I thought he played very well on the night (against Chelsea). He’s looking in good condition, mentally he’s in good shape, so we’ll do everything we possibly can to keep that going. Obviously we need him to keep performing well and at that moment he’s in good shape.”

David Moyes, Manchester United manager(on possible result of Liverpool match)“Well, just the same as it goes anywhere else, it’s no different. You can only get three points for the win. But obviously it’s a big win if you can do that. Liverpool will be one of the strong teams this season, and if we can do that then I think that would be a good start.”

David Moyes, Manchester United manager(on Champions League draw)“OK, OK. I think parts of it, I think the last draw coming out was a difficult one to get Sociedad, who’ve done well in Spain. But generally you could have got a tougher draw, which Celtic have got. I know ours could have been, it was a really difficult draw for Celtic. So I enjoyed watching the draw yesterday, I really enjoyed being part of that and being part of that Champions League. So I look forward to the games when they come round.”
