Video: PSV rescue late point at Twente

FC Twente and PSV Eindhoven draw 2-2 in round six of the Dutch Eredivisie season on Saturday (14th September).

Having seen league leaders PEC Zwolle drop points for the fist time this season earlier on Saturday, both FC Twente and PSV Eindhoven had the chance close in on top spot as they met at De Grolsch Veste in Enschede.

Last season, Twente won this fixture 3-1, with Luc Castaignos getting on the scoresheet.

The striker turned provider in this game, setting up 19-year-old Ghanaian Shadrach Eghan for his first Eredivisie goal as the home side took the lead on 17 minutes.

PSV had a lot of the ball, but failed to create much in front of goal and as the game passed the hour mark, coach Phillip Cocu prepared to shake things up a bit by making a few changes.

His strategy worked, but not in the way he intended.

Before the substitutes could get on the pitch, Memphis Depay crossed for Georgino Wijnaldum and his 50th Eredivisie goal brought the sides level.

Twente rallied and restored their lead four minutes later.

Dusan Tadic’s cross was nodded down by Castaignos and Quincy Promes swept home.

The visitors came back again though and a slice of luck earned them a point.

Depay ran down the Twente right, and his shot took a big deflection and beat Nick Marsman’s despairing dive.

The game finished 2-2 and Zwolle, who went down 2-1 at champions Ajax stay top of the table on 13 points, one ahead of PSV, who registered their third successive draw, two clear of Ajax and four clear of Twente, who drop to fourth.
