In yet another exciting round of fixtures, the mighty Real Madrid travelled to Schalke while Chelsea played Turkish outfit Galatasaray.
Schalke 1 – 6 Real Madrid
A stellar display by the Spanish giants has all but confirmed their qualifiication to the round of 8. The front three – Karim BEnzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale were lethal on the night as they all grabbed a brace to make it 6 for the Los Blancos. Schalke earned a late consolation with a thunderous strike from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar which is sure to be one of the goals of the competition.
English giants Chelsea were held by Galatasaray on what was a frustrating evening for the Blues. Fernando Torres scored an early goal to put his side in front, and had the better chances there-after. However, poor defending from a corner led to the home team’s equaliser in the second half. Chelsea enter the second leg with the advantage of an away goal and are favorites to qualify to the next round.
