Vidic believes Rio Ferdinand deserves England call up

Manchester United centre back Rio Ferdinand was left out of the England squad recently. However, Roy Hodgson has recalled the experienced veteran for the games against San Marino and Montenegro.

Sir Alex Ferguson was surprised by Rio’s recall and said that he would allow the player to go only if United’s medical team say he is fit.

United have to play Sunderland and Chelsea in the FA cup replay after the international break and Fergie wants his main centre-back to stay fit for both the crucial games.

Ferdinand’s club-mate has backed his return to the national side. He believes that Rio deserves the call-up.

“It’s good for Rio,” said Vidic. “He deserves the call, he has played well this season and can help the national team.

“He would have two international games, then when he comes back we have two games in three days in the Premier League and FA Cup.

“Can he play all of these games? All I can say is that I hope he does well.”
