Watch: Chelsea reveal home kits for 2016-2017 season

Eden Hazard and Ruben Loftus-Cheek model Chelsea’s new kit

Chelsea stars Eden Hazard and Ruben Loftus-Cheek unveiled the Blues new home kit for the 2016-2017 season. The two attacking midfielders appeared in a video on Chelsea’s official Facebook page.

The Adidas jersey is in Chelsea’s classic blue colour and features a white coloured collar. The front of the shirt is covered with impressions of the Chelsea lion symbol. The logo of jersey sponsors Yokohama appears on the front too.

Yokohama Rubber took over Chelsea’s jersey sponsorship from Samsung in 2015 after signing a ten year deal with Chelsea worth £40 million a year. Chelsea’s previous deal with Samsung was worth £18 million a year.

The inclusion of Eden Hazard in the unveiling of the jersey was particularly interesting as the winger has been woefully out of form this season amidst rumours that he will leave the club in the upcoming summer transfer window. This may be a way of refuting those rumours and emphasising that Eden Hazard will be a part of the club’s plans for next season.

Poor season for the Blues

Chelsea had a disappointing start to their season, suffering their lowest point after their defeat to Bournemouth which resulted in the sacking of Jose Mourinho. Under caretaker manager Guus Hiddink, the Blues have enjoyed a mini-resurgence, going on a lengthy unbeaten run and lifting themselves into the top half of the table.

The Premier League defending champions drew with Tottenham on Monday thus ending their Spurs’ chances of winning the league, which made Leicester City unlikely winners of the Premier League title.

The Blues will wear their new kit in their final home game of the season against Leicester City before the start of next season. The kit is already available for pre-order on the Chelsea website.
