Premier League 2017/18: Watford 4-1 Chelsea - Player Ratings

Watford v Chelsea - Premier League
Watford thoroughly deserved the win tonight

Words fall short to describe how bad Chelsea performed tonight. There was no desire from the Blues to even play let alone win the game. And this team will face Barcelona in about 2 weeks time. Lord have mercy!

Watford, on the other hand, were simply fantastic tonight. They had a plan, executed it correctly and got the desired result. Their pressing, the desire to win, the passes, everything was spot on.

It started off with the penalty which Troy Deeney converted comfortably a couple of minutes before half-time. Hazard then pulled one back in the last 10 minutes of the game which lifted the Chelsea players all of a sudden.

However, Watford were determined to get the 3 points. Daryl Janmaat scored right after Hazard and gave his team the lead. Gerard Deulofeu doubled the lead and Roberto Pereyra's goal was the icing on the cake!

Javi Gracia couldn't have asked for a better home debut than this

Orestis Karnezis - 7/10

Karnezis had a great game tonight. He didn't have much to do as the visitors hardly threatened the hosts.

Adrian Mariappa - 7/10

Mariappa did a great job in the back three to stop Chelsea's attack, at least whenever they had one.

Sebastian Prödl - 7/10

A good game for Prodl. He did well to support Mariappa at the back.

Jose Holebas - 7/10

Not the position Holebas is comfortable in. Nonetheless, he coped well and was disciplined.

Daryl Janmaat - 8/10

Janmaat looked so much better playing as a wing-back. He scored the second goal for his club. A brilliant through ball from him saw Courtois come forward and give away a penalty by fouling Deulofeu. Overall, a good performance.

Abdoulaye Doucouré - 8/10

Fully energetic, Doucoure never allowed Chelsea's midfield to settle in. Looked threatening when on the move with the ball and also helped in the defence.

Etienne Capoue - 8/10

Another great game from Capoue. He drove Watford forward and played well. A really strong display.

Marvin Zeegelaar - 7/10

He was great on the right flank. Going head-to-head with Moses, the former got the better of the latter many times. A threat while going forward.

Gerard Deulofeu - 9/10

Now that is how one expects his home debut to be. The ex-Barcelona player was a constant threat to the visitors. He won the penalty which Deeney converted and doubled his team's lead right after Janmaat scored to take Watford ahead.

Troy Deeney - 7/10

A good display and a fine evening for the Watford skipper. He won plenty of balls in Chelsea's defence. He kept his cool and converted the penalty to give his club the lead going into half-time.

Richarlison - 7/10

Richarlison didn't look happy after getting subbed. He gave the visitors' defence a run for their money.

Substitutes

Roberto Pereyra - 6/10

That finish from Pereyra was splendid. He produced a strong performance from the bench.

Andre Carrillo - N/A

Came on too late to make an impact.

Andre Gray - N/A

Just like Carrillo, Gray also came on too late to make a difference.

Chelsea

Watford v Chelsea - Premier League
Shambolic performance from the men in Blue

Thibaut Courtois - 6/10

He should have never left his line which resulted in a penalty. Apart from that, there was very little the Belgian could have done.

Cesar Azpilicueta - 6/10

The only player in the back three that actually tried to make a difference. He tracked back to stop a couple of Watford attacks.

David Luiz - 4/10

Coming back into the starting lineup in the Premier League after three months, the Brazilian's passing was poor. He also made a reckless challenge and got a booking.

Garry Cahill - 4/10

The Chelsea captain just couldn't keep up with Deulofeu's pace and was beaten time and again. He did, however, make a couple of decent tackles at the back.

Victor Moses - 5/10

He was energetic on the right flank and seemed to be a threat when on the move. However, his final ball was lacking.

Tiemoue Bakayoko - 1/10

Just when you think Bakayoko's performance cannot get worse than this, he proves you wrong. He lost the ball a countless number of times and was booked twice in a span of five minutes. Luckily for him, the hosts couldn't capitalise on it, else the scoreline would have been even worse for the visitors.

N'Golo Kante - 6/10

Given the fact that he had to do the work of two players, he did a good job. He did what he does best but was overshadowed by Watford's midfielders many times.

Davide Zappacosta - 4/10

The Italian never looked comfortable on the left flank. With zero crosses, he didn't look like threatening when on the move and did very little to help Cahill deal with Deulofeu.

Willian - 5/10

Willian was unlucky to be taken off early in the game because of the red card shown to Bakayoko. Prior to that, he looked lively but made no real offensive impact on the game.

Eden Hazard - 7/10

Without a doubt, Hazard was Chelsea's best player on the pitch. He had a quiet first half but was lively in the second. He even managed to get on the scoresheet which did lift the spirits of the Chelsea players for a few minutes before the hosts took the lead once again.

Pedro - 4/10

The Spaniard did not have the best night. This was another poor performance from him. He gave the ball away often and did little to make an impact.

Substitutes

Cesc Fabregas - 4/10

Coming on the pitch just a little over the half-an-hour mark, Fabregas looked invisible in the game.

Oliver Giroud - 4/10

Not the best debut for Giroud. He did try to make an impact after coming on but was sandwiched between two defenders from the hosts.
