Manchester United striker and England international, Wayne Rooney has given his opinion on Memphis Depay and his tentative start at the most successful English club of all time.

The Red Devils bought the Dutch winger during the previous summer transfer window from PSV Eindhoven for a massive 25 million pounds. Depay started his senior professional career at the Dutch club back in 2011.

Having found the back of the net 39 times in the 90 Eredivisie matches he played for PSV Eindhoven, Memphis Depay was labelled as one of the most exciting prodigies in world football before his move to the Manchester-based club.

However, the Dutchman has failed to stamp his authority in English football as he started in just one of the previous five games for Manchester United in all competitions.

Although the 22-year-old winger is far from his prime form having scored just a couple of goals for the Red Devils in 23 league matches, he was a part of the Netherlands starting XI that played against England in an international friendly match at Wembley on Tuesday.

Speaking about Memphis Depay, Wayne Rooney, who has been out of action since his injury in February told ITV, “He (Depay) will be pleased to start. He’s had a stop-start season for Manchester United. This is a chance to show the quality he’s got.”

When asked about Daley Blind, another Manchester United teammate of his, the England international said, “He’s a very good reader of the game. He will be the first to tell you he’s not the quickest, but his reading of the game makes up for that.”

“He’s excellent with the ball,” Rooney added.

Blind arrived at Old Trafford in 2014 from the Dutch giants Ajax. The Manchester club shelled out a transfer fee of 13.8 million pounds for the 26-year-old central defensive midfielder who was named the Dutch Footballer of the Year back in 2013-14.

Since his arrival in England, Blind has started in 50 league games for the Red Devils and has found the back of the net thrice.

Meanwhile, the Three Lions slumped to a defeat at the hands of Holland despite leading 1-0 at half-time. Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy had put England in front in the 41st minute of the game. However, Vincent Janssen and Luciano Narsingh scored the goals for the Oranje to hand them a memorable victory.
