Wayne Rooney is all set to be offered a new deal to stay with Manchester United.
According to The Telegraph, Wayne Rooney, whose contract runs till 2015, is set to commit his future to the club with whom he signed as an 18-year-old. United are keen to keep the player at the club beyond the age of 30, and hope that the England international will hang up his boots with the club.
The 27-year-old was heavily linked with a switch to Premier League rivals Chelsea throughout the summer, and transfer speculation was fuelled when he did not play United’s last game of the season. Ex-manager Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed that United had declined a transfer request from Rooney.
Rooney’s future was previously in doubt in 2010, when he stated he wanted to leave the club after a rift with Sir Alex Ferguson, and the saga ended with the striker signing a 5-year contract.
Rooney was the youngest player ever to score a Premier League goal while at Everton against Arsenal in 2004, ending the Gunners’ unbeaten run. He has since gone on to score 141 EPL goals for Manchester United.
