What impact can Christian Pulisic make for Chelsea?
- Christian Pulisic will join Chelsea in the summer. Here's what he can bring to the table for the Blues.
Chelsea completed the signing of the 20-year-old American Christian Pulisic in early January for £58 million. The winger has been loaned back to his previous club Borussia Dortmund until the end of the season. Known for his pace, agility and flair, Pulisic might just be the next Eden Hazard, or maybe even pair up with Hazard at Chelsea.
Under Maurizio Sarri, possession game has been the mantra for Chelsea. The matches are a bit hard or boring to watch and mostly the goals come from quick bursts of pace and creativity in the wings. With the arrival of Higuain, supply from the wings are going to be very important to ensure that his potential is completely exploited.
Hazard has been the driving force of Sarri's Chelsea this season, because of his wonderful ability to block off and beat players in tight areas. Other wingers like Willian and Pedro who just reached their 30s are lacking the flair they used to show in their prime.
This leaves Chelsea with Hudson-Odoi, who Sarri deems too inexperienced for the fast-paced and disciplined Premier League. as the youngster was left out Chelsea's squad once again in yesterday's dismal showing against Bournemouth.
With speculation of transfers rising on Chelsea's main-man Hazard, and Sarri giving him complete control of making the choice of switching clubs, creative and pacy wingers are just what Chelsea need. The 18-year-old prospect Hudson-Odoi is also in the news for a potential transfer to Bayern Munich.
Christian Pulisic is not only an amazing prospect, but a pretty good player capable of handling football in Europe's top tiers already. He has done well for Borussia Dortmund throughout the last two seasons, racking up 10 goals and 16 assists in 82 appearances.
Those might not be big numbers, but for a 20-year-old, he has shown a great amount of promise in the wings throughout his time at Dortmund. If he clicks in Chelsea, he could team up with Hazard (if the Belgian stays) and augment more flair to the Chelsea line-up.
If Hazard does leave, then Pulisic is just the right kind of player Chelsea would need to keep scoring goals and creating opportunities. He might be the right player to replace Willian and/or Pedro whose brilliant Chelsea career might be coming to an end.
In a long term perspective, with players like Kepa, Christensen, Ampadu, Loftus-Cheek, Hudson-Odoi, Chelsea's future looks pretty bright, and the addition of Pulisic will surely make it brighter.
The 20-year-old American can slot in several places in Chelsea's plans for next season, but with transfer speculation about many players in the team on the rise, we can't be sure how Sarri's Blues will look like at the end of the next summer.
Although predicting where exactly Pulisic might fit in, or who he will pair up on the wings for next season is difficult, Chelsea fans can rest easy on this signing, because Pulisic is bound for glory in the blue shirt sooner rather than later.
