As Maurizio Sarri has been quick to an emphasis on, it's not just the defender's who are faulting but the entire team in the defensive process. The change from Antonio Conte to Maurizio Sarri has just not been in formation but also in approach.
The Blues have transformed from a low block side to a high pressing team. In this system, the whole team needs to work in cohesion to press high up the pitch and a lack of coordination can cause the whole defensive system collapses like at Stamford Bridge last week. These are early days and with Chelsea players still learning the system, these things are bound to happen
For Defender's, a high pressing style is completely different to what they were used to previously. Under Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho, Chelsea usually used to drop deep and defend in numbers. However, now playing a high line under Maurizio Sarri, the back four will not have the same protection and face a completely different challenge. Only time will tell whether they can cope with or whether Chelsea needs reinforcements in the backline.
