Why Fernando Torres should stay at Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea

Fernando Torres has thus far been a failure at Chelsea with a total loss of confidence resulting in him not scoring enough goals to justify the outlay. With the return of Jose Mourinho the assumption may be that Torres would want to leave the club however, I believe that in his mind he may want to stay rather than take the easy option and move.

Whilst his work ethic has been beyond reproach we have not seen a £50m striker. Last season, particularly towards the end of the season, was an improvement but he is still a long way from being the reliable striking option that a top club require to challenge for honours on multiple fronts.

I believe that the prospect of potentially winning more trophies including the Premier League, a competition he has not won, will be huge motivation for him to stay.

Due to his comparative failure he will no longer be courted by every club in the world and bar a surprise move to Barcelona, his options will be limited to teams outside or on the fringe of the world’s elite.

I still believe there is more to come from Torres and that he can get closer to his Liverpool peak. His time at Chelsea has not been a total failure as he won the Champions League, FA Cup and Europa League.

The arrival of Jose Mourinho and the club’s ambition mean that Chelsea is the club best placed of his options to add to his tally, he may not be first choice but a player of his calibre would certainly be a key part of the squad.

With a new manager, Torres has a new opportunity to show that he can still be a top striker something that he has shown in brief flashes at Stamford Bridge.

This summer is an exciting time to be a Chelsea player and why would you want to move to a club that will have lesser ambitions.
