“You dont choose to have blue blood beating through your heart. You are born that way “- John Terry
The thrills, the criticism, the failure, the success, the never-say-die attitude, the glory and the honor is all what I experience every season whether I taste some glory or not. The aesthetic appeal of supporting a club today has lost its meaning to many. Being a fan since 2003, you could say I have the license to speak on this sensitive topic even though I don’t remember much about those days when we were never expected to win the league , other than flashbacks of a young John Terry and an ageing Gianfranco Zola as I was about 6 back then. From having sponsors like AutoGlass and Umbro to Adidas and Samsung, the club has grown into a symbol for European Football with matches being watched from people in all four corners of the world.
Let me get this straight. Being a fan and being a supporter is different. The number of fans a football club has is the number of like it has on its Facebook page. He is a fan who who has a rough idea about the club and its history thanks to the power of the internet and he’s always ready to join in the celebration. A supporter is one who hasn’t missed a single game every season since supporting no matter what his social status is. He has gulped down the history and knows what the future can behold, furthermore he remains realistic and positive but has aspirations of finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow after a fruitful, tiring and long journey.
I’m not sure why but even when my body was in Qatar, my heart was always at the Bridge. The things I have seen and experienced could actually help me write a full fledged book of at least 700 pages at the age of 16 [which I plan to do]. There are times when you feel down after incidents that mentally affect you. But what affects you most is the social repurcussions you face after a loss. The taunts you get from your friends, the aftermath of the matches, the way it affects your League position and the Torres howler. Ah! The life of a Chelsea fan has definitely been exciting and hastaken its toll on me. True story!
On a last note, the present is good, the future looks good and the history was glorious, at least in our eyes. With our current squad for 2012/2013, the next season looks like a promising one with much to expect. As the question to why each one of us support our club engulfs our minds, it becomes true that we all love the beautiful game. But the club that I support, which has passed down from my great grand-dad, has given my life a new meaning and the thought of expecting something amazing to happen at all times. Whatever happens, whether the team wins the Premiership or gets relegated, I’m sure I will keep the blue flag flying high and after reading this, I hope you do too. Remain Carefree fellow Blues!
