Why Liverpool are the only team that can challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title

It's now 13 fixtures played so far in the 2018-19 Premier League season, and Man City top the Premier League table with 35 points, 2 points above Liverpool who have garnered 33 points.

At this point, Man City have shown total dominance, laying waste to any opponent that crosses their part. With Benjamin Mendy being the the defender with the highest assist, Aguero having 8 goals, and Raheem Sterling signing a lucrative contract, the club seem to be again heading towards capturing the trophy for the second time in 2 seasons. They are closely followed by PL rivals Liverpool.

Liverpool have 33 points, and like Man City they are making winning the PL a priority. Their intentions to win the PL by all means explained itself when they shocked the world by acquiring Brazilian goalkeeper, Allison Becker, from AS Roma for a record sum.

Recently, Pep Guardiola admitted that his players are scared of the challenge Liverpool bring, and in actual fact they put the pressure very well on Man City because City have only drawn two games and won the rest, yet they are only two points above Liverpool.

So far in my opinion, Allison Becker has not lived up to the hype, having 8 clean sheets in 17 games, I wouldn't consider that superb by a goalkeeper bought for a record fee, but yet it has pushed them 2 points closer to their rivals, Man City.

This i feel has been attributed to the defensive brilliance of Van Dijk who made sure Liverpool didn't lose their match against Man City earlier this season, even though City missed a penalty to wrap up the match.

Although Salah has not been as sharp in front of goal as he was last season, he has gotten for himself a couple of goals that have been vital to the team's push for the title. That is why I am not one of those who call him a "one season wonder", because for me he is world class, and if Liverpool are to win the the PL title, and do it emphatically, they need his brilliance.

As the only unbeaten teams (Man City and Liverpool) left, Liverpool will have to gain inspiration from last season's home and away victories over Man City in the quarter finals of last season's UCL.

Picking up points from smaller teams is very vital for The Reds to stop The Cityzens, and so far, Liverpool are showing no signs of slowing down.
