Why Alexis Sanchez should go to Old Trafford

Alexis Sanchez is on the verge of a move away from Arsenal

There has been a lot of movement in the January transfer market with the likes of Coutinho and Van Dijk finally making their way to their desired destinations. With a little over two weeks to go, there is one major player whose destined location is still uncertain.

Since arriving from Camp Nou, Alexis Sanchez has scored 76 goals winning two FA Cups and one Community Shield. With Sanchez in his fourth year at the Emirates, signs of frustration have increased and it is eminent that the Chilean wants to move to a team where his efforts are rewarded via titles.

Just before the commencement of 2017-18 season of the Premier League, Manchester City were on a spending spree and Alexis Sanchez also featured on their shopping list. Somehow, the deal didn’t come through, although, Sanchez was in favour of a reunion with Pep and be a part of his City plans.

Joining City may not be the right move

Sanchez has been on City's radar for a long time now

Despite their failure to sign him in the summer, City were back in January to snatch Sanchez from Arsenal and add him to their power-packed armoury. Alexis has been on City’s radar for quite a long time and a bid was on the cards to bring him to the Etihad.

Although Sanchez would be willing to join the Sky Blues, the question is whom does he replace to make the eleven. With City being dominant as they are, it would be very interesting to see if Pep really wants to shake his line up to fit in the Chilean.

Given the form in which Pep's current frontline players are and the options he has on the bench, Sanchez could find it difficult to get valuable game time.

Just when it looked like City would get Sanchez for as minimal as £20 million, their bitter rivals and neighbours Manchester United entered the race and have reportedly submitted a bid as well.

Old Trafford could be the perfect place

Manchester United are in dire need of consistent attackers

Jose Mourinho has been a Sanchez admirer of late so much so that he wants to have him immediately at Old Trafford. Even if United are placed second in the league table, the brand of football on display by Pogba and Co. has not been eye-pleasing at all.

Jose has a number of capable players who have only shone in bits and pieces. But as a team, they haven’t been able to match City’s strong performances.

Having Sanchez in the mix of things can work wonders for Mourinho. Even more for Alexis, as he could be the one around whom Mourinho may develop his team. Moreover, he will be well complemented by the likes of Pogba, Martial, Lingard, and the rest at United with whom he can play a similar game which he used to play at Arsenal.

The offers are on the table and it’s for Arsenal to decide whom they want to do business with. They might well go ahead with Manchester United simply because they are willing to offer a better deal for the winger.

What remains to be seen is that will Sanchez be really interested in a move to the red side of Manchester? It would be an interesting move if he does so and probably a rewarding one. The last few days of this January window promises to be exciting as the top two teams of the Premier League fight it out for the Chilean starlet.
