Reports in the English media from the past few days have suggested that Manchester United have identified their top 3 targets for the upcoming transfer window. Based on the areas in the squad which needs improvement, United have decided that Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic, and Crystal Palace's Aaron Wan-Bissaka would be on top of their shopping list this summer.

While Koulibaly is one of the most sought-after defenders in the world, Wan-Bissaka has made a name for himself in the Premier League with his performances for Crystal Palace. Rakitic is a proven midfielder and with opportunities hard to come by at Barcelona, the Croatian may also be looking for a move away from the Catalan club.

Although signings these players would increase the chances of United performing better next season, would this trio be enough if the Old Trafford Club wants to compete for trophies next campaign?

Koulibaly is on the list of almost every top-European club and the Napoli man would be a good pick for United too. The club needs a few reinforcements at the back and Koulibaly is probably the best option available in the market.

Although Wan-Bissaka has shown immense skills for Palace, it needs to be seen whether he can be a contender for Manchester United's long-term right-back option.

Both Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia are at the fag end of their United careers while Matteo Darmain is an unlikely future prospect for the club. Diago Dalot is still young and hence, the club might have to focus on this area of their game.

Rakitic would be an asset to any team and it would be the same for United too. However, the only concern for the club would be the inconsistency of the player and the fact that he may not be a future prospect for the club.

The three targets that the Red Devils have identified will be important as they will be addressing the key areas of concern for the club right now. While Koulibaly and Rakitic are experienced playing in Europe, Wan-Bissaka would be an asset with the form he is in right now.

United has often leaked goals this season and someone with a strong physicality and good defensive skills is needed in front of De Gea. Victor Lindelof is one player who could occupy one slot at the back and Koulibaly has been rumored to be the other defender who would occupy the remaining slot. With the skills he possesses, Koulibaly might just be the right option for United.

Wan-Bissaka can fulfill United's need for a right-back who is good both in attack and defense. Both Young and Valencia are winger-turned right-back's while Wan-Bissaka is a regular at that position. With the Red Devils' counter-attack becoming their newfound weapon, Wan-Bissaka will help them more with their strength.

Rakitic is an experienced professional who has impacted every side he has been part of so far. United has just 3 senior midfielders in the squad right now and hence, and the Croatian should be a priority for them next summer.

However, the Old Trafford outfit still have a few more concerns in their squad and hence, might require more than just 3 players to have a title-winning season. While an additional full-back would be preferred at this stage, the club should also look to buy an attacking midfielder to increase the squad depth.

Coming to the other areas, right-wing has been a concern for the club in the past few seasons and a new player at this position is a must for the next season. The likes of Gareth Bale and Douglas Costa would be good options to consider in the market.

Hence, if the club really needs to have a breakthrough season next year, a few more players apart from the identified 3 must be signed in the summer.
