Willian talks about his dreams, working hard and the Chelsea supporters

As Willian stepped up and curled that left foot beauty into the far corner at Carrow Road on Sunday, all of us thought “Fantastic” for us and for him in particular. As with any new foreign signing, it’s important that they hit the ground running.

Now I think we all agree that for Willian (as with plenty of others) that hasn’t been the case so far but with the attitude he has to being here, it’s hopefully the start of something special at the club.

Talking after Sunday, Willian emphasised just how important the Chelsea fans have been in these early days and how determined he is to work hard as he appreciates what he has these days.

He said:

“I am happy with my start here. Although you always hope your first game for a new club will end with a win and unfortunately we didn’t manage that against Basel.

Despite this I was really happy when the fans applauded me so much as I came off the pitch that night. We were sad to lose the game, but in that moment, as I left the pitch to that reception, I was very happy and want to continue working hard to do my very best for Chelsea and the supporters.

I think there is something different here. At Shakhtar, there were very few teams who could take points from us, we knew most of the time we would win.

However, I have already seen that the games here are more difficult and they demand much more from you. I want to train hard, work hard and give everything to earn my place in the side so I can help the team to be successful.

Every small boy who starts playing the game in Sao Paulo dreams about reaching the professional level; he dreams about playing for the national team and playing for a big club with great footballers alongside him. I can now say that I have realised these dreams, but there are many more challenges to come.”

We have to remember that it’s hard to people who have been used to playing their football in other countries to come to England and get used to life in the Premier League in addition to living in this country. It’s a completely different culture.

In addition to that, coming here for a massive fee also surely must be a burden especially when it takes you time to settle down.

He has done okay in games so far often being used as a substitute but again, it’s difficult to to make a real impact when that is your involvement.

That seems to have all changed after his stunning strike at Norwich and hopefully now Willian settles down and shows us all why Chelsea have tried to sign him for two years.

I have a real feeling with Willian that the goal came at the perfect time for him and we will now really see him kick on!

“He got the call from Abramovich, and off he went to Stamford Bridge! He hates Tottenham, He hates Tottenham!”
