Berlin, Aug 2 (IANS) Wolfsburg shocked Bayern with the late 1-1 equaliser to wrap up the German Supercup 5-4 on penalties at Volkswagen Arena. Wolfsburg clinched the first title of the season on Saturday as they overcame Bayern Munich in the Supercup, where the German Cup winners encounter the Bundesliga champions.

The Bavarians dominated the encounter and took the lead through Arjen Robben early in the second half.

It looked liked Bayern could protect their neat 1-0 lead to the end, but Wolfsburg's Nicklas Bendtner restored parity in the dying minutes of the game to force Bayern into the penalty shootout.

Wolfsburg converted all their attempts from the spot meanwhile Xabi Alonso's shot was blocked by Wolfsburg keeper Koen Casteels.

Bayern Munich took the reigns from the kick-off and they nearly got rewarded with eight minutes into the clash, but Jerome Boateng was just able to rattle the bar from a promising position.

Josep Guardiola's men set the pace at the first half whereas Wolfsburg needed 22 minutes to work out their first shot on target when Ivan Perisic tested Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer with a long-range shot.

Bayern's new arrival Douglas Costa had the best chance to break the deadlock for the visitors, but the Brazilian squandered the opportunity with a weak pass to Robert Lewandowski at the 32nd minute.

Wolfsburg's Kevin De Bruyne had the golden chance to stun the visitors with the opener against the run of the game but the Belgian international failed to slot home the ball into the open goal moments later.
