Zouma in action for St.Etienne

Ex-France defender Frank Leboeuf believes that Chelsea’s January signing Kurt Zouma has the potential to be as good as former Blues and Les Bleus centre-back Marcel Desailly, according to Talk Sport.

Mourinho was keen to snap up the youngster due to the fear he would miss out on his signature in the summer, with expected competition from several clubs across the continent and signed the 19 year-old from St Etienne for a £12.5 million fee on deadline day.

Although the West Londoners have loaned Zouma back to the French outfit for the remainder of the season to further his development he has been tipped to be a star of the future and Leboeuf has set the standard high with a comparison to Stamford Bridge hero Desailly.

“He will have to adapt to the Premier League but he’s a talented player.”

“I saw him play at the weekend and he’s very confident and very strong. Hopefully he will be compared to Marcel Desailly very soon, but he will need a bit of time to settle down and get more experience,” he declared.

With pace, power and a real physical presence if Mourinho can develop the tactical and positional awareness of the Lyon born defender, he may well have found the long term replacement to captain John Terry.
