Shotguns are currently not a part of the meta in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1. Despite doing so many things well, the shotguns in the game have been a bit lackluster. For starters, there are only three, and none of them compare to the beloved Pump Shotgun.

It seems as if Epic Games is intent on introducing new shotguns. Several of the most recent seasons have had unfamiliar or brand-new shotguns added to the loot pool in lieu of the originals - the Tactical, Pump, and Heavy Shotgun.

This time around, Epic has added the Maven Auto Shotgun, Thunder Shotgun, and Combat Shotgun. This article will rank them from best to worst.

Ranking the shotguns in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1

1) Combat Shotgun

The best shotgun this season, and arguably in the many other seasons in which it was featured, is the Combat Shotgun. This weapon is a sort of amalgamation of the other two shotguns in Fortnite because it doesn't shoot as fast as the Maven Auto Shotgun and doesn't pack as much of a punch as the Thunder Shotgun.

However, the Combat Shotgun has a better range than most shotguns and doesn't require an immediate reload. There are a lot of advantages to using this weapon, but it's not easy to obtain.

Fortnite Chapter 4 introduced augments, a new perk system that rewards players for longevity. With it, players can get one random perk (they can re-roll their choices once for free and then for 100 gold bars) every two and a half minutes.

This does require a bit of RNG luck. The Tactical Armory augment grants the Combat Shotgun and the Tactical Assault Rifle, and it is the only method to acquire either of them.

Perhaps players can get lucky and find one on a defeated opponent, but they might just have to wait for the augment. Either way, this gun is well worth the struggle.

2) Thunder Shotgun

The Thunder Shotgun is a bit of a disappointment in comparison to the Pump Shotgun, but it's still a good gun overall. It packs a punch and can be used effectively in certain situations. Like the pump and all its variations (including the Striker Pump and many more), a well-timed and well-aimed shot from the Thunder Shotgun can be the difference between winning and losing.

This shotgun can be found in all the places that have loot, like the floor, supply drop, and chests. It's very easy to get and can be a great weapon to carry around during a match.

Since it's not advisable to run without a shotgun at all, and the Combat Shotgun is only available from an augment, it is probably best to aim for this weapon instead.

3) Maven Auto Shotgun

The Maven Auto Shotgun is the worst shotgun introduced this season. While it is true that one gun will have to be the last on this list, this shotgun is simply not a good pick. It can't deal much damage to opponents, and the speed at which it can be fired barely offsets this weakness. It's one of the worst variations of the tactical shotgun of old, and most Fortnite players don't like it at all.

It's also easy to obtain at all loot locations, but most Fortnite gamers prefer not to take it. They'd rather wait longer to find a Thunder Shotgun, even if it's of a lower rarity than the Maven Auto Shotgun.
