FTC Fortnite Refunds are certainly a hot topic at the moment and for good reason. After Epic Games agreed to pay a settlement of over half a million dollars, the FTC confirmed that $245 million would be used to issue refunds.

For those unaware of the ongoing situation, refunds will be given out to players and parents who were affected by bad consumer practices during certain periods of time. While not everyone will be eligible for a refund, it's a big step forward in the right direction for several reasons.

FTC Fortnite Refunds: Timeline, eligibility, and more

1) Timeline for refunds

While it has been confirmed that the FTC Fortnite Refunds will occur, no timeline has been provided for the same. Considering that the legalities of this settlement will take a few months to wrap up, players shouldn't expect the process to begin anytime soon. With that said, in all probability, the refunds should likely start rolling out by mid-2023.

Considering a six-month timeline as a minimum period, players can expect to receive refunds sometime around the months of June or July. However, given how complex this process is expected to be, there's no telling exactly when the FTC Fortnite Refunds will begin.

2) FTC Fortnite Refunds eligibility

While a timeline has not been specified clearly, the criteria for being eligible to receive any refund has been clearly laid out. Based on the information provided, refunds will only be available to three categories of players/parents. These are:

  • Parents whose children made unauthorized credit card purchases in the Epic Games Store between January 2017 and November 2018 (in all probability, this will not apply to Fortnite alone)
  • Players who were charged V-Bucks for unwanted in-game items between January 2017 and September 2022
  • Players whose accounts were locked down between January 2017 and September 2022 after disputing unauthorized charges with their credit card companies

Readers should keep in mind that these refunds only apply to players located in the United States of America. Since the FTC's jurisdiction is limited to its country of origin, Fortnite players across the world will not be eligible for any such refund.

It's currently unknown whether or not Epic Games will make separate provisions for the global audience that was affected. Hopefully, the developers will take this into consideration.

3) How to apply for FTC Fortnite Refunds

At the moment, there's no way to apply for FTC Fortnite Refunds. Based on the official information, players who believe that they're eligible for a refund should patiently wait until more details have been revealed. Here's what they had to say:

"If you believe that you are eligible for a payment, you don't have to do anything right now. Once we have more information about the refund program, we will post updates here and send email notices to customers who have paid for in-game purchases."

To check for updates, players will simply have to visit the website or sign up to receive email updates about the refund program. Furthermore, it should be made known that the refund process is free of cost. The FTC clearly states that there's no need for anyone to pay to claim a refund.
