Fortnite has a vast collection of in-game cosmetics that are considered rare, and some of them do not appear in the Item Shop as often as others. OG skins like Renegade Raider and emotes like Orange Justice are locked in the vault by Epic to offer those who have them the exclusive privilege of owning rare cosmetics.

One of the Icon Series emotes that has not been seen for almost a year has regained popularity through social media and is widely used by professionals after winning matches.

The emote in question here is Get Griddy, which was released in the game in 2021. Although it hasn't made an appearance in quite some time, speculators predict that the highly sought-after emote may return to the Fortnite Item Shop during Superbowl 2023, when NFL-themed cosmetics are expected to be introduced to the game. Here are a few details about its precious appearances in the Fortnite Item Shop.

The Get Griddy emote is inspired by NFL player Justin Jefferson's celebrations on the field every time he scores. The emote featured a song called Right Foot Creep by rapper YoungBoy Never Broke Again and was released on April 29, 2021, as part of Justin Jefferson's Locker Bundle, which featured the Hit Man skin and Signature Shuffle emote as well.

The Get Griddy was last seen in the Fortnite Item Shop on September 26, 2022, which was exactly 126 days ago, and it has not returned since. However, looking at previous trends, the emote used to regularly make an appearance in the Item Shop every 20-30 days. Here are all the dates when the emote was in the Item Shop:

Why hasn't the Get Griddy emote returned to the game?

Here are a few possible reasons why the emote hasn't returned:

1) Alleged gameplay advantage

Due to a gameplay exploit showcased by NickEh30, Fortnite players have been using the Griddy emote to move around and dodge shots fired by opponents and other NPCs. In this clip, Nick shows himself dodging a crucial shot by The Ageless after he triggers the Griddy emote at the right time. This gameplay bug associated with the emote could prevent it from hitting the Fortnite Item Shop soon.

2) Increased toxicity in NFL and in Fortnite

Ever since Jaire Alexander went into the Griddy in front of Justin Jefferson during an NFL match, Fortnite players who own the emote have begun using it after every elimination they get in the game. The toxicity associated with this emote could be one of the reasons why it has not returned to the Item Shop.

3) The song's rapper is involved in an alleged lawsuit

A year ago, rapper YoungBoy Never Broke Again (aka NBA YoungBoy), who sang the song featured in the Fortnite emote, was arrested by federal police on charges of possession of illegal weapons. He was released from jail after a trial held at the Federal Court of Justice but still has one trial left in the Louisiana courts.

We know that Epic likes to stay away from controversial personalities and those involved in criminal proceedings, so this could be the reason why it hasn't returned to the Item Shop.
