Rumors abound that one of the biggest video game franchises ever could be coming to Fortnite: Pokémon, Nintendo's smash hit monster-based brand.

The game is no stranger to collaborations from everything and everyone. In the last few years, they've collaborated with MrBeast, Patrick Mahomes, the NBA, Balenciaga, Pac-Man, Star Wars, Tomb Raider, Ferrari, and many more.

At this point, it would not be a surprise at all if every major brand ended up in the game, especially major video game brands. Super Mario, Minecraft, Sonic, Zelda, and Pokémon especially come to mind.

Epic Games already has a Gaming Legends series, so any major gaming brand is an easy collaboration for them to justify. The question remains: Is Pokémon coming to Fortnite?

Is Pokémon coming to Fortnite? Exploring the possibilities of an iconic collaboration

Unfortunately, the rumors are not true at this time. A recent artist concept imagined a world where Peely and other Fortnite characters were conjoined with Ash Ketchum, Pikachu, and Charizard.Thist stoked a lot of interest in the hypothetical collaboration.

Unfortunately, there's no merit to the rumor or justification for the fan excitement. As of now, it doesn't seem like Epic has any plans to work with Nintendo on bringing the beloved creatures into the game. No leaks suggest it, and no promotional material has teased it.

Despite the fact that these are two of the most popular video games right now, there's no obvious connection. While likely one of the most popular they'd ever be able to pull off, this collaboration just doesn't have an easy path to completion.

Fortnite is a game about shooting and eliminating opponents using weapons. There's pretty much no such thing in the Pokémon universe.

It's jarring to see some skins carrying weapons. Luke Skywalker with a gun is a sight to see. Iron Man holding a machine gun is, too.

Pokémon holding weapons would be a shocking sight, not to mention that many of them are quadripedals or don’t have any hands.

A majority of them are not the right size or shape to fit the model of a Fortnite skin, either. Charizard doesn't fit the mold, nor does Pikachu or any other mascot Pokémon.

That leaves the humans, including Ash, Misty, Brock, and others. Those could work, but they're not quite the right size, and they're far less recognizable.

This hasn't exactly stopped Epic before, though. Morty Smith isn't the right size, but he was put into a mech suit to make it work. Pac-Man isn't either, so they skipped a skin entirely for that collab.

The same is true for the Among Us crossover, which featured back blings and emotes.

It's not impossible to cross Pokémon into Fortnite, but it presents many challenges and would likely not be as in-depth as either brand would prefer.

Unfortunately, while it's not ruled out, there's no reason to believe a Pokémon crossover is in the works or could be accomplished at this time.
