NPCs in Fortnite have played numerous roles on the island over the course of five years. Some have defended 'their' reality from the Imagined Order, while others have worked in secrecy to overthrow every other faction in-game.

Despite their differences, most NPCs offered players their services during a match. Some sell items, while others can conjure 'rifts' for players to use. Some can even be hired to help fight alongside the player.

Although this feature is relatively new and was only introduced in Chapter 2, the developers haven't stopped improving upon its design. And, according to new leaks, 'Specialist NPCs' are set to arrive soon.

What are Specialist NPCs in Fortnite?

Unlike regular NPCs that can be hired as 'bodyguards' or 'companions', Specialist NPCs come with unique quirks. In addition to shooting at the enemy, they will have a special set of skills or will be divided on the basis of a class system.

According to leaker/data-miner Wensoing, four known classes of Specialist NPCs exist within the game files: Heavy, Medic, Scout, and Supply. Each of them will come equipped with a different loadout.

Here's what players can expect them to bring to the battlefield:

  • Heavy: Rare Maven Shotgun, Uncommon Red-Eye AR + throws Grenades
  • Medic: Rare Twin-Mag SMG + throws Chug Splashes
  • Scout: Rare Heavy Sniper + throws Big Bush Bombs
  • Supply: Rare Red-Eye AR + gives you random ammo

Furthermore, it has been ascertained that these Specialist NPCs will only appear on the island via rifts. This means that they will function like 'guest' NPCs on the island. This will make finding them a tad difficult given how massive the island is.

Nevertheless, being able to run into one of these Specialist NPCs will no doubt prove beneficial. Much like normal NPCs, players will have to spend gold bars to hire them.

Currently, Lt. John Llama is the character model that's been used for these NPCs. More variations will likely be added in as time goes by.

When can players expect to see Specialist NPCs in Fortnite Chapter 4?

Currently, there's no information on when players will get to see and hire Specialist NPCs in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2. Although the Rift Encounter system/mechanic has been perfected, having Specialist NPCs appear out of thin air will take some time.

However, since Specialist NPCs do exist in tangible form within the game files, they are more than likely ready to be rolled out. They could potentially be added after the Fortnite update v24.10 or perhaps the next major update that follows.

It'll be interesting to see how useful Specialist NPCs are in combat situations, especially during solo matches. With each Specialist NPC bringing something different to the table, picking and choosing the perfect one for a particular playstyle will make a lot of difference.
