Some Fortnite players have found themselves in a strange predicament in which they have negative V-Bucks in the game.

However, it's not something to worry about as only a handful of players (possibly a few hundred) have ever gotten into this situation. It only occurs under certain circumstances, and the majority of players will likely never run into this problem.

With that out of the way, the next thing to address is what players should do if they have negative V-Bucks in Fortnite. Well, given that they owe Epic Games money, there is only one thing they can do, which is to repay what is owed.

How to repay negative V-Bucks in Fortnite

To understand how the repayment method works, it's best to address how players can get themselves into this predicament in the first place. As stated, this phenomenon only occurs under a few circumstances, with the main one being chargeback/refunding V-Bucks.

To elaborate, V-Bucks have to be bought using real-life money. When a person charges back the transacted amount or asks for a full refund, the bank returns the money, and Epic Games deducts a specific amount of V-Bucks that was purchased with the said amount of money.

In this scenario, if the player has purchased 100 V-Bucks for $1, they will be refunded their $1 and 100 V-Bucks will be deducted from their account. However, if they spend the V-Bucks in-game and then ask for a refund, they will then owe Epic Games 100 V-Bucks.

They will have negative V-Bucks in Fortnite, and the only way to fix this is by buying more V-Bucks. Depending on the amount of V-Bucks that was spent in-game before the chargeback/refund was initiated, players will have to buy an equal amount to bring their V-Bucks balance back to a positive number.

In most cases, this amount tends to be nominal (for the most part), ranging from between 1,000 to 20,000 V-Bucks, which is about $150 worth of real-life money. However, in certain cases, the value has crossed a negative 60,000 V-Bucks as well.

Why would players spend V-Bucks and then demand a chargeback/refund?

As it turns out, most chargebacks/refunds are initiated by parents whose children somehow managed to use their credit card to purchase V-Bucks in the game. While the bank will indeed issue a refund for the money spent to buy V-Bucks, if the player has already used it in-game, they'll end up with negative V-Bucks in their Fortnite account.

In most cases, customer care will not be able to solve this problem. V-Bucks cannot be returned after they have been used to purchase an item. While Refund Tokens can be used in the case of certain cosmetics, Battle Pass tiers are non-refundable.

That being said, players will end up having negative V-Bucks in Fortnite until they can buy more to break even. All things considered, it's best to tread carefully when making in-game purchases. Not requesting a refund after spending the V-Bucks is the smartest way to go.
