The No Rest for the Wicked Steam Deck optimized settings are a mixed bag and require extensive modifications. While developer Moon Studios GmbH has ensured that their game runs from day one on Valve's portable handheld gaming PC, it would appear that it suffers from numerous performance hiccups that prevent it from being a completely stable experience.

A breakdown of the best No Rest for the Wicked Steam Deck settings can be found below, along with an overview of its general performance.

A list of No Rest for the Wicked Steam Deck settings can be found below, adjusted for a 30 frames per second average gameplay experience:

  • Quality Preset: Performance
  • Render Scale: 50%-60% (50 is preferred for smoother performance)
  • Sharpness: 100%-200% (Adjust as per liking)
  • Motion Blur: On (Keep this enabled to make motion smoother)
  • Framerate Independent Motion Blur: Off
  • Dynamic Resolution Scaling: Off (Can also experiment with On for probable higher frame rates)
  • Target FPS: 30 (It is absolutely essential to cap the frame rate at 30 to avoid stutters)
  • Resolution: 1280x800 (Native)
  • Display Mode: Full Screen Window
  • VSync: Off (Always keep VSync off to reduce jitter)

Additional settings such as HDR and Saturation can be left as is. Keep in mind that HDR is experimental and may not work properly.

The maximum TDP of 15 Watts is highly recommended to be used for this particular game. The usual Steam input and Controller settings are to be left at their default values.

These settings apply to both the Steam Deck and Steam Deck OLED.

Unfortunately, No Rest for the Wicked Steam Deck settings are not enough to deliver a solid 30 frames per second. The game suffers from periodic dips in its frame rate, resulting in massive stutters. While exploration averages around 27 to 30 frames per second, (and mostly delivers an acceptable experience), the fluctuating frame rate can be extremely frustrating during combat sections.

As such, despite technically running on the Steam Deck, it is not recommended to play No Rest for the Wicked on Valve's handheld - as of the time of writing this article. It is hoped that with further optimizations and updates to the Proton Experimental and Hotfix channels, the game will reach a more playable state, which could take anything from a week to a few months.

No Rest for the Wicked is an action RPG from the developers of the Ori series of video games. The game was released on April 18, 2024, for the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S via the early access program.
