The Nvidia RTX 4060 is the latest mainstream 60-class GPU from Nvidia. It is the next-gen replacement to the RX 6650 XT. With tight pricing, however, AMD has brought the higher-tier RX 6700 XT down to the levels of the RTX 4060 and the 6650 XT. All of these are now available for about the same money: $300.

These graphics cards come with similar promises too: solid 1080p gaming with the potential for 1440p. Although each has its set of pros, like DLSS 3 and improved power efficiency for the RTX 4060 and solid 2K gaming performance for the RX 6700 XT, these differences are too small to make conclusive decisions.

This can make choosing the best mid-range GPU for your gaming rig a bit of a chore. Thus, in this guide, we will pitch the graphics cards against each other and try to find out which is the best option. It is worth noting that the 4060 won't launch until July 2023. Thus, the performance data of the card will be based on information showcased by Nvidia at the launch event.

RTX 4060 is a great card, but RX 6650 XT and 6700 XT's value proposition is killing it

The Nvidia and AMD GPUs are based on wildly different architectures — Ada Lovelace vs RDNA 2. Thus, it is difficult to make an apples-to-apples comparison between these three graphics cards. However, below is a quick rundown of the specs charts.

On paper, the RX 6700 XT promises 13.21 TFLOPs of theoretical performance, while its younger sibling, the RX 6650 XT, has an on-paper FP32 performance of 10.79 TFLOPS.

In contrast, the RTX 3060 is capable of 12.74 TFLOPS, while the 4060 pushes the number to 19.47 TFLOPS, making it the fastest in the bunch.

The RX 6650 XT and the RX 6700 XT continue to be solid graphics cards for gaming. They can handle all recent titles at the highest settings without relying on upscaling technologies.

However, the biggest selling point of these GPUs is their pricing. Both the RX 6650 XT and the 6700 XT have been massively discounted, and they are available for about $300 these days. Nvidia is not taking things lightly this generation.

The RTX 4060 has been competitively priced at $299. This makes it cheaper than the RX 6700 XT and only slightly more expensive than the 6650 XT. The GPU will supposedly be faster than all the AMD and Nvidia mid-range graphics cards from the last generation.

The RTX 4060 is an unreleased graphics card — Nvidia claims a 70% performance improvement with DLSS 3 turned on, over the last generation. The RTX 3060 isn't noticeably faster than the RX 6650 XT and the 6700 XT in terms of raw rendering prowess. This is evident from the scores obtained in various 3DMark benchmarks below.

The 4060 is supposed to be faster than all of these graphics cards if Nvidia's claims are in line.

In terms of raw rendering power, the RX 6650 XT and the 6700 XT are much faster than the RTX 3060. Add to this, both the AMD graphics cards are cheaper than the Nvidia counterpart, which starts from around $359 these days. The RTX 4060, on the other hand, can change this.

The upcoming 60-class GPU will improve the performance of the 3060 by leaps. The new graphics card is paired with DLSS 3.0. Frame generation increases FPS by a massive margin without compromising image quality.

Thus, it is the best option to wait for the 4060, which will launch sometime in July. The exact launch date isn't known it, however.
