What’s the story?

It is a well-known fact that young players at big clubs generally end up being loaned out. So much so, that now, even the players themselves have begun poking fun at it.

Trevoh Chalobah, a Chelsea youth player, posted a picture of his FIFA Pro Clubs team, tagging his fellow players, Tammy Abraham and Josi Quintero. In the picture, it can be seen that Trevoh’s team is aptly named as ‘Chelsea Loan FC’. Both Abraham and Quintero are out on loan at Swansea City and FC Rostov respectively.

In case you didn’t know…

What makes FIFA 18 one of the most innovative games is the number of features packed into it, including the Pro Clubs mode for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC software versions.

In the latest edition, major updates were made to the Pro Clubs mode which allows one to create or join an online club as a single customizable player and compete in ranked leagues.

The heart of the matter

Many of the Chelsea youth players are currently on loan at different clubs so as to garner first-team experience.

Like many other professionals, Trevoh, who has represented England at the U19, U17, and U16 levels, is also an avid FIFA lover. It is evident from his Instagram stories that he takes to the game seriously. That he took a jibe at his club by naming his Pro Clubs team as ‘Loan FC’ does not really come as a surprise.

After all, Trevoh’s brother, Nathaniel Chalobah spent seven years at the Stamford Bridge club, out which he enjoyed six loan spells at six different clubs. Eventually, the 23-year-old midfielder made a permanent transfer to Watford in 2017.

What’s next?

The official list of current Chelsea players out on loan is pretty extensive. Only time will tell if Trevoh Chalobah finds his name beside his fellow FIFA players on that list.

Author’s take

Trevoh took a subtle dig at his own club but it remains to be seen if his bosses see the funny side of the story. Maybe, he is aware of an impending loan move for the rest of the season and the picture is only an indication of that.
