FIFA 18: Chelsea wingback Victor Moses' defence upgrade among the highest ever in FIFA history

Chelsea v Leicester City - Premier League
Moses has plenty of reasons to celebrate

Victor Moses, who currently plays as a wing-back at Chelsea, has witnessed tremendous growth in his game, both in the real and the virtual world. The footballer’s FIFA ratings have been upgraded, and rightly so, as the difference is visible when he is on the pitch now as compared to his previous performances in the Premier League.

Moses’ FIFA 18 defence rating saw an amazing, unprecedented hike of 31 points, taking his defense rating straight to 69 from an earlier 38. This is one of the biggest attribute upgrades in the history of FIFA.

Moses in the earlier phases

Moses started his career with Crystal Palace, and after two years of English football, his game improved to such an extent that it caught the eye of European giants Chelsea FC and joined the club in 2012. Despite a decent performance in his first season, Moses spent his second, third, and fourth season on loan, at Liverpool, Stoke City, and West Ham United, respectively.

The return to Chelsea and the return to stardom

Moses got another chance to play at Stamford Bridge in 2016. After impressing the new manager, Antonio Conte, during the preseason, Moses was included in the first team, where he started improving his game. He scored his first goal of the season against Bristol Rovers in a 3-2 victory. All the work that he has been putting in in the recent past, has rippled out into his FIFA 18 ratings.

Moses always showed great potential, but it was only bubbling under the surface and not coming out in the fullest sense. After a victory against Middlesbrough, in June earlier this year, Moses said, “I’ve always known that I’ve got the ability to play at a big club like Chelsea. And now we’ve got a manager here that is willing to give everyone an opportunity. I’m enjoying my football at the moment and just want to keep on enjoying it until the end of the season.” Moses’s performance improved drastically under Conte, and that's why his ratings got jacked in FIFA 18.

Transforming into a wing-back and growing defensively

Conte had put Moses in a wing-back position, as opposed to a winger. And since the tactical switch, Moses has been an indispensable member of the Premier League champions' playing XI. Playing as a wing-back, Moses gets more room and freedom while attacking, and he is at a more defensive position than an out-and-out wing attacker. It will be fascinating for Chelsea fans to play with him in FIFA 18.

Apart from the 31 point hike in his defense, his pace has also climbed up a point at 83, taking his overall up 2 points to 79. His position has also changed in FIFA 18, from a winger to a wing-back, due to the changes made by Conte. After all is said and done, we know the Nigerian is going to have a promising future, both in FIFA 18 and in reality.
