The Newest Cricket Game on the block

What's the Story?

Sachin Tendulkar released his highly anticipated game, Sachin Saga Cricket Champions a couple days back on both Andriod and iOS. The game was well received by fans - the ratings of the game have been above average. The game mechanics are simple and easy to learn and the graphics are as good as one expects them to be.

The game revolves around unlocking players as one progresses through levels - higher rated players can be unlocked as the player progresses. The game developers have thrown in a couple of surprises as far as ratings of the players are concerned, with some exceptional players being rated very low.

The Heart of the Matter

In Sachin Saga Cricket Champions, Rahul Dravid, who is regarded as one of India's best test batsmen, has been rated as the 18th best batsman with a meagre rating of 155. There are 17 people ahead of Dravid, which is very surprising if we look at the players who have been rated above Dravid.

One can argue that The Wall was clearly a better player than Michael Clarke, who has been given a rating of 158. Similarly, Chris Gayle, although one of the best T20 batsmen to have ever played the game in terms of sheer batting ability, cannot be compared to Rahul Dravid. Gayle has been rated 160 - 5 more than Dravid's rating.

A case could be made for Sourav Ganguly too, who has been rated 180. The gap between the ratings of Ganguly and Dravid stands at 25 and one may argue that the two players were equally good in their prime.

What's next?

Rahul Dravid's low rating isn't the only surprising thing in the game, which sees the exclusion of very famous players while including some players who aren't as well-known. Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis formed a lethal partnership but while the game developers added Akram as the best bowler in the game, rated 200, at the same time they chose to ignore Waqar, who was considered equally good.

Author's Opinion

The game developers need to rethink the player ratings and change the same in a subsequent update. It might be beneficial for the developers if they widen their horizon on their opinion of a player than just statistics, which can often be misleading.
