The 2024 Presidents Cup is set to begin on September 24 at The Royal Montreal Golf Club in Canada. The Presidents Cup is a biennial event played between the United States and an International team (excluding Europe).
This event is similar to the Ryder Cup, although there the United States takes on Europe. Another difference between the two events is that the Presidents Cup is played over four days, while the Ryder Cup lasts for three days.
The 2024 Presidents Cup will be a match play event played over four days, comprising 30 games in total. Both teams will have 12 golfers and the team that scores the most points after four days will win the tournament.
The 30 games are split into four-ball, foursomes, and singles. In the four-ball, two players compete as partners and play their own ball, and only the lowest score of the two partners on that hole is considered. In foursomes, two players compete as a team, taking alternate shots.
In singles match play, a player competes directly against another player in a head-to-head match play on the final day.
Here is the schedule for the 2024 Presidents Cup:
September 26th (Thursday) - Five matches of four-ball or foursomes
September 27th (Friday) - Five matches of four-ball or foursomes
September 28th (Saturday) - Eight matches of four-ball and foursomes split in the morning and afternoon.
September 29th (Sunday) - Twelve matches of singles.
Golfers competing in the 2024 Presidents Cup
Team USA, led by Jim Furyk, will be looking to continue their success in the Presidents Cup. The defending champions have some of the top golfers among their ranks this year, with Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, and Collin Morikawa, among others, making the 12-member squad.
Since the start of the event in 1994, the International Team has struggled to put up a fight in the Presidents Cup as Team USA leads the overall head-to-head with 12 wins, while the International Team has won the event just once (1998).
This year, the International Team led by Mike Weir has a formidable lineup with golfers like Hideki Matsuyama, Adam Scott, and Jason Day in the squad.
