Jason Day: A Brief Biography

Jason Day’s Early Life and Background

Jason Day is a professional golfer of Australia, who was born in Beaudesert, Queensland, Australia on 12th November, 1987 to Alvin Day and Dening Day. He also has two siblings named Yanna and Kim. Early on, when Jason was aged six, his father took him to the Beaudesert Golf Club, introduced him to this sport and enrolled his name as a junior member of that club. When Jason was eight years old, his whole family shifted to Rockhampton. But unfortunately, when Jason was 12 years old, his father died of stomach cancer and Dening became a single mother. He got admission in Kooralbyn International School and after completing his schooling Jason attended the Hills International College. After Alvin's death, his whole family suffered various problems but Jason didn't lose hope and continued his training with his mentor Colin Swatton to pursue his dream.

He also participated in the major championships also and finished top 10 several times in each of the 4 majors. His greatest victory came in 2015 PGA Championship, where he performed very well on the course.

During his days in Hills International College, Jason participated in collegial tournaments and won most of them. As an amateur golfer, he won numerous accomplishments including Australian Boys’ Amateur (2004), Callaway World Junior Championship (2004), Victorian Junior Masters (2005), Australian Amateur Stroke Play (2006), Master of the Amateurs (2006). Jason Day's journey as a professional golfer started in 2006 and he started competing on the PGA Tour events. In 2007, he won at the Legend Financial Group Classic, which was his first victory on the Nationwide Tour and that win caused him to achieve the 8th position on Nationwide Tour's money list. Jason won at the HP Byron Nelson Championship and became the youngest Australian player to win a PGA Tour event and that win helped him to get entry into Open Championship (2010), his first ever major championship. In 2011, he finished second in the Masters Tournament and U.S. Open both and moved to top 10 in the Official World Golf Ranking for the first time. After that, Jason tied for second position in the U.S. Open (2013). In 2014, he won at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in the World Golf Championship event. Jason's greatest victory came in PGA Championship (2015). After that he continued his journey by competing in various tournaments all over the world. Recently, Jason secured his victory at the AT&T Byron Nelson in 2023.
