Could the stars of LIV Golf take down those on the PGA Tour? Phil Mickelson certainly believes so. The controversial golfer has once again taken a shot at his former tourmates.

One Twitter account posed the idea of a tournament that pitted LIV Golf players against PGA Tour stars in a similar fashion to the Ryder Cup.

To make it even more interesting, the account pitched the idea of the captains being Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods. The former had strong words when he detailed on Twitter why the idea wouldn't work.

Mickelson tweeted:

"It sounds great, but we would dominate them so soundly and it would be over so quick that TV would have to fill an hour of dead time. That’s why it’s not happening at this time."

Forget the outstanding issues between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour. According to Mickelson, the reason this can't happen is that the LIV Golf league simply possesses too much talent.

Looking at it from an outside perspective, it might be interesting to watch, but there are a few reasons this probably can't happen.

The biggest reason is that there is a ton of animosity between the PGA Tour and LIV and that has extended to the players.

Just recently, the Hero Dubai Desert Classic was all anyone could talk about as LIV golfers went up against PGA Tour players.

Patrick Reed and Rory McIlroy engaged in and kept up a conflict the entire time, miring the event in controversy from start to finish.

That would be significantly amplified if it was literally a team of LIV players against those with the PGA. It would make for interesting television, but it would probably be very detrimental to the game of golf.

Phil Mickelson is quick to defend LIV and call out the PGA Tour. That's true of Reed and many others who defected as well. On the other hand, McIlroy, Woods, and many others have a sincere disdain for those on LIV Golf.

Putting those together in a tournament is certainly a dangerous proposition.

Would Phil Mickelson's LIV Golf defeat the PGA Tour?

Hypothetically, if the game of golf did decide to attempt something as insane as this, how would it go down? Could Phil Mickelson's prediction come true and his LIV side defeat the PGA side with ease?

Probably not. Phil Mickelson is not lost on confidence in his league and there is a reason for that. They do employ the world's fourth-ranked golfer in Cameron Smith and a lot of other talents like Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, and many others.

Still, the PGA Tour could field a team of nine of the top 10 ranked golfers in the world. It's hard to imagine a team made up of any of those players losing.

To Mickelson's credit, the LIV does have talent and they continue to add to that. They still do not, and likely will never, have enough talent to win head-to-head like the one discussed above.

It's not an indictment on LIV, but the PGA Tour has such excellent players that it's hard to imagine anything else happening.
