Los Angeles Clippers guard Paul George sustained a serious leg injury on Tuesday (March 21) and was helped to the locker room by the team’s training staff. George was evaluated after the game, but the team provided no update on his status. His injury has derailed Clippers’ championship hopes.

On Wednesday (March 22) morning, though, the LA Clippers announced that Paul George suffered a knee sprain and will be reexamined in 2-3 weeks. Although it will be challenging for the Clippers to move forward without their star player for many weeks, the good news is that the injury is not serious, and George should recover soon.

Paul George’s injury occurred when the player collided with Lu Dort, the Oklahoma City Thunder guard, in the fourth quarter of the Clipper’s 101-100 loss. As George landed after taking a rebound, his knee buckled, which led to him falling to the floor in excruciating pain.

According to ESPN, George sustained a sprained right knee and will be reevaluated in two to three weeks by the team.

What is a sprain?

A sprain is a tearing or stretching of ligaments that occurs when you overextend a ligament while stressing a joint. It usually occurs in the ankle, but the knees and wrists are also very common locations for a sprain.

The best treatment option to cure a sprain is the RICE method, i.e., rest, ice, compression and elevation. While mild sprains can be easily treated at home, severe and painful sprains might require surgery to repair the damaged ligament.

It has now been confirmed that Paul George will be out for at least two weeks, which means he's likely to miss the remaining games of the regular season. Tyronn Lue, coach of the Los Angeles Clippers, said:

"George is still being evaluated right now. But I did see the replay of the injury. I didn’t even know it looked like that until an assistant coach showed me, so I didn’t even know what happened exactly."

The Los Angeles Clippers' last regular season game is scheduled for April 9 and they have nine games left. The Clippers are fifth in the Western Conference with a 38-35 record, but George’s injury has put them in a difficult situation.

Not to mention, the LA Clippers' remaining games are not going to be easy, as they face the LA Lakers, Phoenix Suns, New Orleans Pelicans and Memphis Grizzlies.

After the news of the injury spread on social media, George thanked everyone who had been praying and sending love. He wrote “Appreciate y’all” with praying hand emojis on social media.

George is currently recovering well from his injury and is hoping to return to the court soon.
