Bhopal beat Delhi in national girls hockey

Mysore, March 18 (IANS) Bhopal overcame Delhi 4-0 in the opening match of Pool B in the fourth National Girls Hockey Championship (Division A) at the Chamundi Vihar Hockey Ground here Tuesday.

It was Chanda Gupta’s hat-trick which helped Bhopal to an easy win over Delhi. Chanda scored in the ninth, 47th and 60th minutes while Annu Gurang contributed a lone goal in the 49th minute.

Later, Punjab defeated Mumbai 2-1 in Pool D. Jaspreet Kaur gave an early lead to Punjab in the first minute. In the second half, Mumbai scored through Pranali Patil (40th) to level the scores. Captain Rajbir Kaur helped Punjab take a 2-1 lead through a field goal (46th).

In another Pool D match, Odisha thrashed Bihar 15-0. Topping the goal-chart was forward Elima Minz, who scored five, followed by Priyanka Ekka (3) and Mariana Kujur (2) while Ambika Toppo, Dimincal Kujur, Rashmita Minz, Priyanka Kujur and Manju Kujur contributed one goal apiece.

In the last match of the day, Madhya Pradesh routed Karnataka 8-1 in Pool B. Madhya Pradesh skipper Priyanka Wankhede scored six field goals.

Pool B: Bhopal 4 beat Delhi 0; Madhya Pradesh 8 beat Karnataka 1

Pool C: Punjab 2 beat Mumbai 1

Pool D: Odisha 15 beat Bihar 0
