Champions Challenge Hockey: India smash seven past Poland

India were absolutely rampant against Poland earlier today

India won their second consecutive match in the Champions Challenge Hockey tournament with a hugely impressive 7-0 victory of Poland earlier today. It was their third match of the tournament, having drew and won with Belgium and South Africa respectively. And Michael Nobbs’ boys did not dissapoint by turning in a breathtaking performance in Johannesburg.

It all kicked started in the 19th minute when birthday boy Yuvraj Walmiki pushed the ball into the net after some good work by Manjit Kullu in midfield, to give India the lead. Five minutes later, they were at it again as Danish Mutjaba smashed in a powerful shot that flew home from the left side of the flank to give India a more asserted position to the match.

The Poles did try to launch a few comeback attacks but to no avail. Subsequently, India scored a third goal to kill of any hopes of comeback and the score remained until the end of the first half.

Five minutes into the second half, Sunil continued his impressive performance in the Champions Challenge Hockey so far, with another brilliant goal which gave India a commanding 4-0 lead. He went past three defenders impressively, before blasting a shot that went past the Polish goalkeeper into the goal.

Brenda Lakar then scored India’s fifth goal before Tushar ‘s reverse shot tore the Polish defence apart as India went rampant. If many thought that was the end, they were wrong as seconds before the hooter, Yuvraj, completed an impressive performance to assist Tushar, who scored his second goal of the game to give India an whooping 7-0 victory over Poland.

That victory meant that India have collected 7 points from three games in the tournament so far. They are currently top of Pool A and are likely to face Malaysia in the quarter finals.
