What's the story?

Sandeep Singh is a name that is very well-known among hockey fans across the world, owing to his tremendous skill and leadership qualities. He was one of the most important players in the Indian national hockey team, before he was struck down by a horrific tragedy. And now, the penalty corner specialist is all set to have a biopic released on his story, which will showcase his trials and tribulations and his remarkable comeback.

The biopic will feature singer/actor Diljit Dosanjh in the lead role, portraying the character of Sandeep, with Taapsee Pannu also featuring in the film as the female lead. Dosanjh revealed the official poster of the movie "Soorma" via his official Twitter profile:

In case you didn't know

Sandeep Singh's story is especially remarkable considering his life-altering incident in 2006 where he was struck by a bullet in a train. Despite being paralyzed, the gritty hockey player made a return to action and took to the field again.

The heart of the matter

News of the biopic had been brewing for some time but was for long rumoured to be called "Flicker Singh" owing to Sandeep's nickname. The poster as revealed by Diljit Dosanjh's Twitter post however shows Soorma as the name and highlights Sandeep Singh whilst the hockey star is wheelchair-bound.

The inspiring tale is set to showcase his journey to the very top of the sport and his remarkable comeback from the tragic incident that brought a stop to his career.

What's next?

The movie is set to release on 29th June 2018 and will show Sandeep in a light that has never been seen before.

Author's take

The biopic looks exciting to say the very least and one hopes that it inspires people across the country and highlights Sandeep's incredible struggles.
