HIL: Barry Dancer named head coach of Punjab franchise

New Delhi - Former Australia coach Barry Dancer has been named the head coach of Jaypee Punjab Warriors for the next month’s Hockey India League (HIL) while former India player Zafar Iqbal has been taken on board as an advisor.

Former India captains Jagbir Singh and Mohammad Riaz are also part of the coaching staff. Besides Australia, Dancer has also worked with the England team.

“We have put together a highly competent coaching team, and are confident that we will be able to raise a highly competitive team of young and experienced players. We have taken the first step to promote hockey in India by participating in the league, and will continue to provide best training and coaching facilities to young Indian players so that they can play at international level and bring India back at top of the world hockey again,” said Manoj Gaur, chairman of Jaypee Group.
