Hockey Rankings: India 11th despite impressive Champions Trophy performance

Indian hockey fans would be disappointed to hear this. The national side continues to languish at the 11th position despite an impressive fourth place finish at the recently concluded FIH 34th Champions Trophy hockey in Melbourne.

According to the latest FIH rankings released this afternoon, India continue to remain at the 11th position – a place they occupied after finishing with the wooden spoon at the 2012 London Olympics.

India’s arch-rivals Pakistan jumped five places from ninth to fifth after their bronze medal effort at the Champions Trophy.

Olympic champions Germany are still perched at the top of the tree despite failing to make a podium finish in the Champions Trophy.

2012 Champions Trophy winners Australia maintain the number two ranking, while Netherlands cling on to the number three ranking after finishing runners-up in the Champions Trophy.

Olympic semifinalists England, who finished eighth and last in the Champions Trophy, surprisingly did not drop a single spot and continue to hold the number four ranking.

Spain, who gave the Champions Trophy a miss, fell two spots from fifth to seventh, while New Zealand continue to occupy the number six ranking despite finishing a lowly seventh in the Champions Trophy.

Korea are placed eighth, while Belgium who finished fifth in the Champions Trophy are ranked ninth.

Argentina are ranked 10th, one notch above India.
