Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) and Hockey India (HI) Finally Merge into a Single Body

Finally some good news for the Indian Hockey lovers came out on Monday, following Indian Hockey Federation’s (IHF) and Hockey India’s (HI) meeting, where they have agreed upon to function as a single unit. The merger agreement came in the wake of the Union Sports Minister ultimatum that stern action would be taken if the merger doesn’t take place by July 25, after several rounds of talk.

Though the two warring bodies have confirmed the merger, the name of the new body has not been decided yet. It is also yet to be known whether HI has agreed to the new conditions put forward by IHF in the last week’s meeting, which led to the talk failure or IHF has retract back their conditions.

Moreover, the future of multi-million World Series Hockey, planned by IHF, in collaboration with Nimbus sports is also unknown. It is expected that, with the merger, the present HI officials would use their influence to win over International Hockey Federation (FIH) officials to recognize the event due to begin from December this year.

However, it is certain that, the two warring bodies agreed for the merger because of the ultimatum served by the Union Sports ministry. It now remains to be seen how power between the members are shared and how the solution to the state affiliates are brought out.

Hope everything settles amicably and they work for the best interest of the game in the country and not for their personal interest and benefits.
