Video: Belgium secure place in World League final

Tom Boon scored twice as Belgium beat New Zealand 3-2 on Friday to reach the final of the FIH event in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Both Belgium and New Zealand were looking to continue their unbeaten runs in the FIH World League event in Rotterdam when they contested the first semi-final on Friday.

Pool A winners Belgium opened the scoring in only the fifth minute.

John-John Dohman fed the ball into the New Zealand shooting circle, where Thomas Briels deftly lifted it over goalkeeper Devon Manchester.

The Kiwis were back on level terms 13 minutes later though, with Blair Hilton diverting a shot from Alex Shaw past Belgium goalkeeper Vincent Vanash.

But Belgium restored their lead before half-time – Tom Boon firing in from a penalty corner.

Boon then doubled Belgium’s advantage three minutes into the second half, controlling a long pass into the circle and scoring on the turn.

New Zealand fought back and pulled the deficit back to one goal in the 56th minute, with Andy Hayward scoring from a penalty corner.

Hayward went close to levelling from another penalty corner, but goalkeeper Vincent Vanash made a fine save and Belgium held on to win 3-2.

They advance to the final, where they will face Australia, who beat hosts the Netherlands 4-3 in the second semi-final.
