Virat Kohli congratulates Indian Hockey Team for their historic Champions Trophy silver
Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his delight on Twitter as well.
As the nation awakened to the sheer pride that the Indian Hockey team earned by merit of their stunning display at the 2016 FIH Champions Trophy in London, congratulatory messages began to pour in from all corners and soon took over social media to start off a cheerful Indian weekend.
It was no mean feat to enforce a goalless draw against the world no. 1 side in the final match of the tournament. It is certain to boost the team’s morale ahead of this year’s Summer Olympics as the whole country has now acknowledged their on-field greatness. Notable sports personalities have done their part by adding to the home support that will multiply the encouragement. The latest entrant to this brigade is Indian cricket’s favourite son, Virat Kohli.
Virat had earlier cheered the Men in Blue on as they set foot in the finale clash for the first time in the history of Champions Trophy. Following the brilliant effort that won millions of hearts all over the globe on Friday, the biggest cricketing icon in the world today came forward to express his delight and praise the spirited performers of the Indian hockey team for their excellence before going on to convey his best wishes for the upcoming Rio Olympics 2016.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, too, sent in his words of appreciation for the Blueshirts on their hard-fought silver medal. With this kind of motivation on display, an eagerly awaited return of Indian Hockey’s glorious days might just be round the corner:
