As the nation awakened to the sheer pride that the Indian Hockey team earned by merit of their stunning display at the 2016 FIH Champions Trophy in London, congratulatory messages began to pour in from all corners and soon took over social media to start off a cheerful Indian weekend.

It was no mean feat to enforce a goalless draw against the world no. 1 side in the final match of the tournament. It is certain to boost the team’s morale ahead of this year’s Summer Olympics as the whole country has now acknowledged their on-field greatness. Notable sports personalities have done their part by adding to the home support that will multiply the encouragement. The latest entrant to this brigade is Indian cricket’s favourite son, Virat Kohli.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, too, sent in his words of appreciation for the Blueshirts on their hard-fought silver medal. With this kind of motivation on display, an eagerly awaited return of Indian Hockey’s glorious days might just be round the corner:
