Following box office hits such as 'Rustom', 'Toilet, Ek Prem Katha' amongst some of Akshay Kumar's biggest releases, the star actor will now be seen essaying his third sport-based role following Patiala House and Brothers when his latest movie, 'GOLD' hits the screens on Independence Day later this year.

The trailer for the high-profile biopic was released in the wee hours of 5th of February along with the tagline 'Abhi Tak India Chup tha. Ab hum log bolega aur duniya sunega' by Akshay Kumar himself on his official Twitter account that sent the Twitterati into a tizzy.

Directed by Reema Kagti and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, the movie encompasses the obstacle-ridden journey of India's in their path to win the 1948 Olympic Gold medal, the first one as a free nation which sandwiches the struggles before and after the emphatic win.

The movie, which has the picturesque backgrounds of Yorkshire and various parts across England to decorate the film had the presence of Arjuna Award winner Sandeep Singh, who was a former Indian National team captain to mentor the actors' hockey skills. The cast boasts of some big names from the cinema industry such as Kunal Kapoor, Mouni Roy, Amit Sadh amongst others who will play pivotal roles in the movie.

Aptly titled 'GOLD', the movie will aim to bring out India's rise to stardom through the journey of Balbir Singh, three-time Olympic Champion and one of India's greatest ever hockey players who will be portrayed on screen by the charismatic Akshay Kumar.

In what will also be Akshay Kumar's first collaboration with Farhan Akhtar's Excel Entertainment, the shooting for the movie was wrapped up in December last year and is slated to release on Independence Day, August 15th, 2018.
