Women's Hockey: India go down 0-2 to Great Britain A

Not the best of results for the Blueskirts in their friendly

Indian women had a disappointing start to their 2016 tour of England, with Great Britain A beating them 2-0 at Marlow, today.

Eager to make amends for a rather disappointing outing at the Hawke's Bay Cup last month, the Indian eves had started today's proceedings in style.

Right from the onset, they did well to take the attack to the opposition while maintaining their shape on occasions where the Great Britain A side would find space to counter. In the first half, it was forward Vandana Katariya who came closest to finding a breakthrough for the Indian team with a shot that went just wide.

The opposition's defence had to weather several pressure situations to see the contest reach the halfway mark with the scores level at 0-0.

Eight minutes from the start of the second half, Great Britain's Ellie Rayer hit one home to open the scoring in this match.

Despite darting forward in numbers repeatedly, Ritu Rani's side could not find an equalizer in the slow-paced third and fourth quarters. To make matters worse, Rayer found the net once again, in the 59th minute, to close the match 2-0 in their favour.

Having lost the first match, coach Neil Hawgood would now have to address the loopholes in the side ahead of their next fixture here, on Thursday.
