The Ottawa Senators could be back in the playoffs for the first time in nearly six seasons. The last time the Senators sniffed the big dance was back in the Eastern Conference finals in 2017, which ended at the hands of Chris Kunitz and the Pittsburgh Penguins. A new identity and a steady stream of young talent has led the Senators to be in contention for a playoff spot.

The Senators sit five points out of the second Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference with one team in front of them. With the window just now opening, and expectations at rock bottom, the Senators could still find a way to be playing in the big dance.

Here are three reasons why the Ottawa Senators could be playing in the Stanley Cup playoffs in 2023.

#1. Brady Tkachuk

Brady Tkachuk is a young, dynamic forward who could be the driving force behind the Ottawa Senators' playoff push in 2023. The 23-year-old left winger has already established himself as one of the team's most reliable offensive weapons, and he brings a unique blend of physicality, skill and intensity to his game.

Tkachuk's leadership qualities and ability to create scoring chances for himself and his teammates make him a player to watch in the coming years, and if he can continue to develop and improve, he could be the difference-maker that helps the Senators reach the playoffs.

#2. Tim Stutzle

Tim Stutzle is a highly skilled forward who has already established himself as one of the best offensive forces in the league with the Ottawa Senators. The 21-year-old left winger has a natural ability to create offense and make plays, and his skillset is complemented by his speed and competitiveness.

If Stutzle can continue to develop and refine his game, he could become a dominant offensive force in the NHL and a key player in the Ottawa Senators' playoff push. With his talent and work ethic, Stutzle has become a game-changing player and a driving force behind the Senators' success in 2023.

#3. Acquiring Jakob Chychrun

Jakob Chychrun is a young and talented defenseman who could bolster the Ottawa Senators' blue line and help them reach the playoffs in 2023. The 23-year-old has already established himself as one of the league's top defensemen, and his skill set would be a significant addition to the Senators' defensive core.

Chychrun brings a combination of offensive and defensive abilities to his game, and his ability to move the puck and make plays could be a game-changer for the Senators. Ottawa made a big move to acquire the elite blue-liner and he could be a critical piece in their playoff puzzle for years to come.
