Will the Los Angeles Kings be buyers? Three players the team may acquire before the trade deadline

The Los Angeles Kings may look to add before the trade deadline

The Los Angeles Kings have quietly been enjoying a solid season, posting a 32-19-7 record through 58 games this season. The Kings' 71 points place them only two behind the Vegas Golden Knights for the Pacific Division lead, which makes them a logical candidate to be buyers at the trade deadline.

As the trade deadline approaches, the Los Angeles Kings have been linked to several players, including one of the hottest names on the market: Jakob Chychrun.

Another position that the Kings will need to address if they hope to make a deep postseason run may be in goal. While 31-year-old Pheonix Copley has posted an impressive 17-3-1 record this season, they may want to add a reliable veteran to help the team's depth at the position. Here is a look at three players the Kings may target before the trade deadline.

Jakob Chychrun and the Los Angeles Kings seem destined for one another

If the rumors are to be believed, Jakob Chychrun appears to be a lock to join Los Angeles before the trade deadline. While the young defenseman has been linked to several teams, including the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins, a move to the Kings may be the most likely.

The Arizona Coyotes defenseman has legitimate top-four potential and would be an excellent addition to any contender's defensive core. The fact that he remains under contract with the club until 2024-25, and is only 24 years old, makes him a more intriguing option for a potential suitor.

While acquiring Chychrun is expected to be expensive, the Los Angeles Kings have several young players who should pique the Coyotes' interest. If a deal can be struck, Alex Turcotte could be one of the players who leaves.

Semyon Varlamov may be an option for the Los Angeles Kings

The New York Islanders may be looking to move on from veteran goalie Semyon Varlamov, and the Kings may be the perfect fit. Although Copley has been impressive, Varlamov has a proven NHL track record and could contend for the top spot for the club.

The Islanders will likely consider moving on for the Russian, who is 34 years old and sits firmly behind Ilya Sorokin on the depth chart. His current cap hit of $5 million would make him relatively inexpensive to acquire, as the Islanders would almost certainly want to clear cap space.

Cam Talbot could be another option in the net for LA

Similar to Varlamov, Cam Talbot of the Ottawa Senators could be a veteran addition who could compete for the top spot. At 35 years old, and with an expiring contract with a $3,666,667 salary cap hit, the Senators may be happy to move him for anything.

"The Pittsburgh Penguins and Los Angeles Kings are both in on Cam Talbot. It feels like a guarantee at this point that he’ll be traded. Ottawa’s future in net is very much in doubt. I’d go after a Vejmelka or a DeSmith as short term stopgap. What do y’all think?" - SENS TALK

While he is no longer the caliber of goalie he was in 2016-2017 when he finished fourth in the Vezina Trophy voting, Talbot could provide the Los Angeles Kings with a reliable veteran presence between the pipes.
