"She wished my unborn child dead": When Erik Karlsson and his wife accused his teammmate's girlfriend of harassment and cyberbullying

Erik Karlsson and his wife accused his teammmate's girlfriend of harassment and cyberbullying

Erik Karlsson's wife, Melinda Karlsson, was the subject of a season-long campaign of online harassment allegedly perpetrated by Monika Caryk, the longtime partner of former Ottawa Senators forward Mike Hoffman. However, new court filings obtained by a Canadian newspaper reveal that Caryk continues to deny these allegations.

Caryk initiated legal proceedings because she said Erik Karlsson and his wife have yet to provide her, or Hoffman, any evidence as to why they believe she was the person behind the harassment campaign.

"The public nature of these allegations against Ms. Caryk have caused grave damage to Ms. Caryk’s reputation and her well-being, even threatening her safety," according to the factum filed with the Ontario Superior Court.

The factum gives a behind-the-scenes look into how events unfolded before the allegations against Caryk became public, and how the allegations reverberated throughout the lives of players’ wives and partners.

The protection order application was never served to Caryk or tested in court, and no order was made. Ottawa police started a criminal harassment investigation into the allegations, but to date, no criminal charges have been laid against Caryk. Caryk has not only repeatedly denied harassing Karlsson to the newspaper, but she has also done so while under oath in a court filing and deposition.

In June, the newspaper first reported that Erik Karlsson's wife had applied for an order of protection against Hoffman's fiancee, alleging harassment and cyberbullying. Karlsson alleged that Caryk wished her and her unborn child dead, wanted someone to "take out" her husband's legs to "end his career," and "posted over 1,000 negative and derogatory statements about me as a professional."

The upcoming court date will determine whether Karlsson will be forced to disclose any evidence against Caryk. The factum filed by Caryk shows the impact these allegations have had on her life, including the damage to her reputation and well-being.

Caryk continues to deny the allegations against her, and the case remains ongoing. The repeated allegations against her have also had a significant impact on Erik Karlsson, as his wife has been subjected to the alleged harassment.

Erik Karlsson's wife was requested to show evidence

A judge has denied a request by Monika Caryk, the fiancée of Montreal Canadiens left winger Mike Hoffman, to see evidence related to the allegations. Karlsson filed an order of protection against Caryk in May 2018, claiming that Caryk had posted over 1,000 negative comments about her on social media.

However, Caryk has denied making such comments and sought to see evidence linking her to the posts. The judge has ruled that the information Caryk seeks is best obtained from the websites and service providers where the posts occurred, rather than from Karlsson. The order of protection was filed and has since expired, and no criminal charges have been laid against Caryk.
