Pro Kabaddi League 2017, Season 5: The Best 7 from the Kolkata leg

The Kolkata leg of the Pro Kabaddi League was filled with thrillsThe Kolkata leg ended with the home team Bengal Warriors winning two matches, drawing two and losing as many. Bengal were unbeaten in their first three home matches but went winless in their last three.

Their efforts, however, saw them rocket to the top of Zone B. The leg also witnessed Haryana making a superb comeback against the Gujarat Fortunegiants overturning a 12-point deficit.

While the Mumbai leg saw some youngsters turning in match winning performances, the Kolkata leg saw some experienced PKL players proving their class. The best seven from the Kolkata leg features an experienced corner combination, one of the best right covers in business, an Iranian all-rounder, an experienced raider taking responsibility and two super star raiders.

Mohit Chhillar finally came to party

While Surender Nada has slowed down after a barnstorming opening, Mohit has found form at the right time. He scored seven tackle points in the two matches played in the Kolkata leg.

In games dominated by raiders, Mohit emerged as the top defender in both the matches helping Haryana end the unbeaten runs of both the Fortunegiants and the Warriors. His form will be crucial in Haryana as they look to take advantage of their home leg in the coming matches.

Maninder Singh was unarguably Bengal’s best performer in their home leg. The tall and muscular man from Jalandhar regularly produced the goods to help Bengal win two matches and tie two at home which took them to the top of Zone B. Even in both the losses, the former Pink Panthers' star produced Super 10s

Overall, he scored 66 raid points in six matches at an average of 11 raid points per match. Scoring four Super 10s including 14 raid points against Haryana in a losing cause saw Maninder move up to 95 raid points overall - behind only Pardeep Narwal and Rohit Kumar.

The Bengal Warriors captain Surjeet Singh led from the front in their home leg scoring 15 tackle points, which was the most by any Bengal player. He also scored a High 5 against U.P Yoddha helping Bengal to tie the match.

Surjeet’s exploits at home means he is now the leading defender of PKL 5 with 39 tackle points. His displays against the U Mumba and Delhi were below par but overall, his efforts helped Bengal reach the top of Zone B and in a good position to make the playoffs.

Wazir Singh, the veteran came back with a vengeance

?Wazir Singh was struggling to get going this season so far but found form in Kolkata - scoring 17 raid points in the two matches Haryana played in the City of Joy. He scored a superb Super 10 against home team Bengal Warriors which played a big role in ending Bengal’s seven-match unbeaten run.

Wazir used all his experience and guile and led the raiding department in the absence of their lead raider Vikas Kandola. Wazir also contributed with three tackle points in the two matches. Wazir’s return to form is great news for Haryana who were reeling after Khandola - their lead raider got injured.

The 'Flying Iranian' makes our team as a left cover due to this leg being a raider dominated leg and secondly, Meraj’s brilliant performance against the Bengaluru Bulls couldn’t be ignored. Meraj produced an outstanding display against the Bulls scoring 14 raid points- his highest score in PKL.

He was also looking good against the Bengal Warriors having scored five raid points before getting injured. Meraj’s efforts mean Delhi are now unbeaten in the last three matches, winning two of those.

Pardeep Narwal is as good as it can get when it comes to raiding

The 'Dubki King' once again proved his class scoring 32 raid points in two matches including annihilating an inexperienced Jaipur defence scoring 21 raid points - the most by any player in PKL 5, breaking his own record of 19 raid points.

Pardeep’s brilliant performances helped Patna register a 26-point win which is the biggest by any team in PKL 5. With this outstanding performance, Pardeep became the first player to score 100 raid points in PKL 5.

Girish Ernak scored six tackle points against the Telugu Titans registering his first High 5 of PKL 5. With the scores at 36-40 and with Pune reduced to two men Girish Super tackled raid machine Rahul Chaudhari to end any chance of Pune slipping after racing to an unopposed 21-point lead at the start of the match.

Despite the presence of stalwarts like Sandeep Narwal and Dharmaraj Cheralathan, Girish is now the top tackle point scorer of Pune with 23.
